A young hacker from India running his family glassblowing operation is summoned to the United States to attend to his dying father's convenience store business. After being pushed out of the family after Bagal Patel's death, Mukesh Patel befriends a hillbilly drug dealer living in the same motel where he stays. Pairing Aaron's street smarts with Mukesh's social engineering and computer skills, the new friends begin to trust each other and contemplate schemes to scam the town residents of Mason, TN out of their old money.
But amidst personal injury fraud and Bling cam hacks, uninvited psychic visions visit Mukesh. While the premonitions prove helpful, some are distressful, and Aaron warns his friend Mike not to mention them in Mason...not since the government agents and military moved into town after a recent UFO crash.
Jen, Aaron's girlfriend, joins the crew as chief of surveillance duties as complications arise when Mike's psychic powers grow. If the fraud goes well, all will be set for life, as the friends attempt to pull off the mother of all scams, using an over-eager aggressive church bouncer and Aaron's autistic brother as bait.
The Hacker and the Hillbilly is a delightful dark comedic friendship story filled with deeply flawed characters. If you like found family novels and have that thick skin to understand and appreciate dark satire in cringe yet hilarious situations, The Hacker and the Hillbilly is the kind of quick read that will provide you with a smile when you are deep within its text, with many hearty laughs.
