A cargo voyage across the Tasman Sea

Set in 1870, this second book in John Cartelege’s story places the married master mariner in command of the two-masted ketch Bruno. Its cargo run from Tasmania to New Zealand gives the book a way to examine the practical work of sailing across the Tasman Sea, including storms and other problems at sea. More than 20 illustrations, photographs, and drawings accompany the sailing details. Reported conversations about risk-taking by shipmasters and spiritual matters add another dimension to the voyage, which continues through Melbourne before the Bruno returns to Hobart.
