A gifted child finds her own way to push back

Matilda brings together a child’s intellectual gifts, an unsympathetic family, and a school ruled by a fearsome headmistress. When Matilda discovers an unusual power, the story’s conflict shifts from enduring unfair treatment to finding a way to challenge it. The book pairs a school-centered adventure with themes of courage, resourcefulness, and children’s capacity to act when adults fail them. This edition is a 256-page paperback from Puffin Books.
