Australia & Oceania

Australia & Oceania young adult historical fiction traces coming-of-age experiences shaped by the distinct histories, societies, and environments of this expansive region. Unlike general historical fiction, these works focus on the specific challenges, relationships, and transformations faced by young people within Australian, New Zealand, and Pacific Island settings at pivotal moments in local history.

Readers can investigate how the experiences and themes in Australia & Oceania compare with those from other regional or period-based historical young adult fiction. To focus your research or reading, consider time periods, major historical events, or cultural interactions addressed in these narratives, all through the perspectives of young protagonists navigating their worlds.
