Morning attention and the natural world

This collection brings together 47 poems that turn toward close encounters with the natural world: crickets, toads, trout lilies, black snakes, goldenrod, bears, and deer. Morning recurs as both subject and occasion for noticing, alongside moments of greeting the day and lingering in happiness. Everyday experience and animal and plant life share the book’s field of attention, giving the collection a clear focus on observation, nature, and the pleasure of being awake to one’s surroundings.
