AlbakiReads Editorial

A professional primer on commercial wine-grape growing

Stephen Skelton’s introduction surveys viticulture from vine physiology and grape varieties to rootstocks, vineyard establishment, the annual growing cycle, pests, diseases and vine nutrition. The third edition adds material on sustainable and regenerative approaches and modern PIWI hybrids. Organized into fourteen short chapters and illustrated with photographs and charts, it offers a broad overview of the subject rather than step-by-step instructions for amateur vine growing. Its scope connects the science and practical considerations of vineyard production, giving readers a structured starting point for understanding how wine grapes are grown commercially.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Wine-trade students, including WSET Diploma students and Master of Wine candidates
  • People considering owning or planting a vineyard who want a basic introduction
  • Readers seeking an overview of commercial grape growing, not a practical step-by-step manual
