A year inside circus life
Bruce Feiler’s account centers on spending a year as a clown after pursuing the childhood dream of joining the circus. The book offers an entry into a sheltered world of circus performance and frames that experience as both an American adventure and a reflection on how dreams can falter before finding a way forward. Its subject is the lived experience of circus life, with the circus itself as an old performing art form.
