A familiar rhyme, shown from the inside

Simms Taback’s picture-book take on the traditional cumulative rhyme pairs its escalating list of swallowed creatures with die-cut illustrations that reveal what is happening inside the old lady’s stomach. The visual conceit gives the familiar song a fresh dimension, making the artwork central to how the rhyme is presented. A humorous children’s book built around repetition, accumulation, and the surprises of seeing a well-known verse rendered in pictures.
