Through the years of his youth, from 1955 to 1966, Roy Nilsson experiences life's challenges, adventures, personal losses and some surprising revelations.

"I did have dangerous encounters. I fell into the nettles, got hung up in barbed wire, and ate wild berries that made me sick. I learned that there were consequences to every brave or foolish act. I had survived being a boy with great curiosity. Yet for every risk I took, for every experience I had, good or bad, I gained confidence in myself."

Although Roy experiences self doubts, and feels lost at times, he is nurtured and inspired by mentors, who appear at just the right moment to guide him with their support, just when he needs it most.
