Twelve-year-old Danny Byrnes knows only three things about the presence that haunts him. It never leaves him, it can only reach him in complete darkness, and that it wants to kill him. Oh, and that it's real. It's as much a part of him as the color of his hair (almost totally white) or the way he plays basketball (he's very good.) No one understands why Danny sleeps in the day and stays awake all night..he's heard all the whispers, but he's not just the weird little dude people think he is. It's never been the dark he's afraid of, it's the thing that hides in the dark that worries him. He knows it's real even if no one else believes him. The only thing he doesn't know is why, why is this happening to him and how can he make it stop before the thing in the darkness wins and he loses.
