AlbakiReads Editorial

A crooked psychic cop meets a rival from his past

Volume 3 brings Hyuji Shishihara, a former yakuza looking to start over, back to Chinjuku—and into renewed rivalry with Meguru Chojo. The neighborhood’s affection for Hyuji complicates Chojo’s efforts to win over the people he is meant to protect. Alongside that central conflict, the volume branches into smaller misadventures involving Cop-Bot’s departure from the force, Ippongi’s ill-fated lunch invitation, and Inukai’s jealousy. Its comic setup pairs police work and psychic abilities with a deliberately unruly portrait of a force that seems as prone to trouble as the neighborhood it serves.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Manga readers interested in comedic police stories with supernatural abilities.
  • Readers who enjoy ensemble casts and recurring rivalries.
  • Those following the Chojo series and its neighborhood-centered cast.

Book overview

A psychic cop and his rookie partner tackle neighborhood crimes in their own wonky way!

Psychic investigators don't normally use their powers to lie, cheat, and get ahead. But super psychic policeman Meguru Chojo does! Relegated to a run-down police station and hated by the entire neighborhood, Chojo gets into all sorts of shenanigans, goofs, and gaffes with his rookie partner, Nao Ippongi. Together, they turn the police force into a farce.

Fresh out of jail and ready to turn over a new leaf, yakuza penitent Hyuji Shishihara sets foot in Chinjuku once again, renewing his age-old rivalry with Chojo. With new blood on the block, Chojo must fight even harder to win over those he protects, especially when everyone loves Hyuji's heart of gold. Meanwhile, Cop-Bot quits the force and tries out the delinquent life, Ippongi invites Keinain out to a disastrous lunch, and Inukai seethes over Hyuji and Chojo's relationship!
