A literary estate and a fairy-tale inheritance

Effy Sayre’s lifelong visions of the Fairy King have shaped her attachment to Angharad, a dark fantasy by the late Emrys Myrddin. A contest to redesign Myrddin’s estate brings her to Hiraeth Manor, where the daunting building and unwelcoming residents place her belief in fairy tales alongside a concrete, contested inheritance. The setup links a young woman’s personal mythology with questions of authorship, legacy, and who gets to shape a writer’s lasting home. Classified as historical fantasy, the novel combines a manor-house setting with supernatural elements and an academic-fantasy framework.
