A bat finds family among the birds
Separated from her mother during an owl attack, fruit bat Stellaluna is welcomed by a bird family and adapts to their way of life. Her journey brings adoption and belonging into a story about living with differences, while her eventual reunion with her bat family connects those ideas to the ties between families. The contrast between bat and bird habits gives the book a concrete way to explore how fitting in can coexist with recognizing what makes each of us distinct.
