Sleeping Beauty, reimagined in Ethiopia

Hannah Eliot’s board-book adaptation relocates the familiar Sleeping Beauty tale to Ethiopia, centering Princess Rebecca and the curse placed on her at birth. The story keeps the fairy-tale elements of a royal family, an evil fairy, and three good fairies, while framing the setting through a multicultural retelling. Its board-book format and illustrated presentation introduce a classic plot to very young children, with the question of how Rebecca’s family and the fairies can break the curse driving the story.
