Memory, spirits, and the broken Heart of Acrilon

In this epic-fantasy world, the destruction of the Heart of Acrilon has made grief inseparable from forgetting: when someone dies, memories of them vanish. Quinn Vesper is the exception, able both to remember the dead and see spirits, and sets out to gather the Heart’s scattered shards. That quest brings together two sources of opposition: shardbeasts formed from the fragments and factions with competing reasons for wanting the Heart. The premise links a personal mystery of memory and loss to a larger struggle over whether the world’s curse can be undone.

  • Readers of epic fantasy built around a world-spanning quest and competing factions.

Book overview

A loved one passes and, instantly, all memory of them leaves your mind. That has been the reality of the world ever since the Heart of Acrilon was destroyed millennia ago. Until Quinn Vesper was born.

The sole person able to remember the dead and see spirits, Quinn navigates a haunted, broken world, having made it their goal to rebuild the Heart to free everyone from its curse.

Of course, things are never that simple, as they and their party contend with ferocious shardbeasts born from the very shards they're gathering as well as powerful factions who want the Heart for their own reasons.
