Building a championship track team
After his senior cross-country season, Drew Declan turns his attention to Aiken High’s indoor track team. The story centers on the work of assembling a competitive squad: Drew recruits athletes from football, soccer, and baseball, while contending with teammates who lack enthusiasm and administrative obstacles. His own performances on the track sit alongside the leadership challenge of bringing the River Hawks together in pursuit of a state championship. Running, school sports, and team-building shape this young adult sports story.

Drew Declan, fresh off his senior season of cross country, is not satisfied with being the best athlete at Aiken High. His passion for running drives him to transform the River Hawks indoor track team into state champions. He recruits off-season football, soccer, and baseball athletes, manages apathetic teammates, and hurdles administrative roadblocks all while dominating his competition on the track. Drew's speed, quick thinking and leadership keep the River Hawks running.
