Folklore from across Alaska Native communities

This collection brings together Alaska Native folklore and mythology from multiple regions and tribal groups. John Smelcer, a writer, poet, folklorist, and member of an Alaska Native tribe, compiled the stories. Several are accompanied by illustrations by Larry Vienneau. First published in Alaska in 1992, this revised and expanded edition offers a broad collection rather than a single community’s tradition.
