A practical guide to raising a bilingual child

Barbara Zurer Pearson’s guide combines practical suggestions for incorporating two or more languages into a child’s routine with background on why families might choose bilingual upbringing. It also addresses common myths about bilingualism and includes accounts from parents and people who grew up bilingual. The book connects its advice to research on children’s language learning and considers possible intellectual, emotional, and social dimensions of learning multiple languages at a young age. Its step-by-step framing makes the subject accessible as a parenting guide, while the broader discussion offers context beyond day-to-day language choices.

Raising a Bilingual Child, A step-by-step guide for parents

This readable guidebook prepares you for what to expect and what to do when you're parenting a bilingual-to-be. The book provides you with solid scientific arguments for raising your child bilingually and outlines practical steps you can take to integrate two (or more) languages into your child's routine. It also includes many inspirational accounts from parents and childhood bilinguals. It dispels myths about bilingualism and explains how learning multiple languages at a young age can enhance your child's overall intellectual, emotional, and social development.
