A hands-on trash-truck route

Jackie and Luis’s collection route turns a neighborhood map and a pretend truck ride into opportunities for active participation. Page-by-page prompts invite young children to move, trace the route, and try simple actions such as opening and closing the book to mimic crushing trash. Along the way, the activities bring in counting and color identification, while the book also introduces where trash trucks go and how they operate. The format connects early learning tasks with the practical, familiar subject of garbage collection.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Toddlers and preschoolers who enjoy trash trucks and other vehicles
  • Young children practicing counting, color identification, or tracing
