A pear tree gets crowded

Jono Ganz reworks the familiar “Twelve Days of Christmas” carol as a picture-book comedy, beginning with a contented partridge in its pear tree and bringing in the song’s accumulating gifts and visitors. The structure follows the carol’s verses, turning their growing cast into the source of the humor and leading to a small twist. The Christmas setting and recognizable song give the story a clear seasonal frame, while the playful change to a well-known lyric is its central idea.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Young children encountering the Christmas carol in picture-book form
  • Families looking for a humorous seasonal read-aloud
