School comedy, club rivalry, and a tutoring scramble

Volume 5 brings Haruhi’s academic standing into the club’s orbit: with her scholarship at risk, the Host Club members compete to tutor her, but she chooses Ayame, a female student who dislikes Tamaki. That choice shifts the club’s attention toward whether Tamaki can win Ayame over so the group can spend time with Haruhi. The volume builds its comedy from the contrast between Haruhi’s practical concerns and the wealthy students’ elaborate social world, while continuing the series’ romantic-comedy setup of a girl working undercover in an all-male host club.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Manga readers interested in school-based romantic comedies and ensemble club dynamics.
  • Readers who enjoy stories that contrast a scholarship student’s circumstances with the privilege of wealthy classmates.
  • Those following Haruhi and the Host Club’s ongoing social entanglements.

Book overview

The uproarious comedy about a girl enlisted to work in a lavish host club!

In this screwball romantic comedy, Haruhi, a poor girl at a rich kids' school, is forced to repay an $80,000 debt by working for the school's swankiest, all-male club--as a boy! There, she discovers just how wealthy the six members are and how different the rich are from everybody else...

Haruhi's top ranking falls and she is in jeopardy of losing her scholarship at Ouran. Each member of the Host Club scrambles to become her tutor, but Haruhi picks a female student, Ayame, to help her. Haruhi's time is now spent with Ayame, who can't stand Tamaki. Can Tamaki charm his way into Ayame's good graces so the Host Club can spend time with their favorite member?
