A one-volume companion to Bible study

Organized around the Bible’s sixty-six books, John H. Sailhamer’s commentary is designed for consultation alongside Scripture. Its entries address the history, events, people, and places behind biblical passages, offering context for details that can be difficult to place when encountered on their own. The one-volume format brings that reference material together while also attending to themes across the Bible. It is a resource for checking a passage’s context during study, rather than a substitute for reading the biblical text itself.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • People studying the Bible who want a reference close at hand
  • Sunday school teachers, pastors, and ministers preparing to discuss passages
  • Bible college students seeking a one-volume commentary
