Biblical context and contemporary application in one volume

Edited by Christopher A. Beetham, this abridged, one-volume resource brings together concise commentary and background on the Bible. Its approach moves from the text’s historical, literary, and cultural settings to explanations of grammar and key word meanings, then considers how the biblical message can be applied to contemporary questions and situations. The structure makes it useful both as a reference for understanding passages and as a resource for preparing to teach them, while the publisher describes it as accessible without formal theological training.
