A vacation mystery for emerging readers

Ember’s trip to Acorn Island with the Chin family takes a turn when a raven warns that a chipmunk haunts the night. As trouble threatens the family’s vacation and the pets are blamed, Ember and the other animals must work out how to protect the trip. The story combines a pet-centered mystery with an island vacation setting, presented in the Branches early chapter-book format, with illustrations on every page. Its setup gives newly independent readers a clear through-line to follow: who is causing the trouble, and can the pets stop it?
