Book overview
The book of Isaiah is a masterpiece of ancient prophecy, yet its complexities can often make it feel like a closed book.
Dr. Donald W. Parry (Professor of the Hebrew Bible and the Dead Sea Scrolls, Abraham O. Smoot Professorship, Brigham Young University, and a member of the International Team of Translators of the Dead Sea Scrolls since 1994) offers insights to help readers unlock Isaiah's words. Drawing upon the ancient and medieval Hebrew manuscripts (including the Dead Sea Scrolls), the Book of Mormon, and the Joseph Smith Translation, this new translation combines rigorous scholarship with an accessible layout designed to clear away centuries of confusion.
Inside of A New Translation of Isaiah, readers will find:
- Ancient Hebrew Insights: Significant readings from ancient Hebrew scrolls and medieval manuscripts.
- A Restoration Lens: Insights from the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith Translation are seamlessly incorporated to expand upon the ancient record.
- Restored Poetics: The text is visually formatted into poetic parallelisms to clarify the logic of the message.
- Identified Voices: Approximately sixty different speakers are marked, transforming a confusing monologue into a clear dialogue.
- Accessible Language: Obsolete expressions are replaced with readable English, while retaining the original majestic Hebraisms.
A New Translation of Isaiah provides a unified toolkit, inviting every reader to search the prophet's writings more deeply.
