A closer look at how photographs work

Stephen Shore’s book considers photography across formats and contexts, bringing iconic images, found photographs, negatives, and digital files into a broader discussion of how pictures can be understood. Its subject is both the photograph as an object and the ways of looking that help make sense of one. The scope, spanning different periods and kinds of imagery, gives the book a place between visual study and practical photographic learning.
