A mountain legend meets modern-day greed

The arrival of treasure hunters claiming to have found the Lost Rhoades Mine unsettles Duck Creek Village, where gold, artifact auctions, and talk of a mountain curse complicate local skepticism. Maya and Chloe approach the claim through scientific curiosity and concern about Cedar Mountain’s exploitation, tracing their investigation from the Cedar Mountain Country Store into the Utah wilderness. The setup brings together a disputed treasure legend, questions about authenticity, and a conflict over who gets to profit from a place and its history. Doug and Sam’s store adds a touch of strange, helpful magic to the mystery.

Book overview

When a flashy couple from Las Vegas arrives at the heights of Cedar Mountain claiming to have finally pinpointed the location of the "Lost Rhoades Mine," the residents of Duck Creek Village are skeptical-until the gold starts showing up. Suddenly, quiet mountain life is disrupted by treasure hunters, "authentic" artifact auctions, and whispers of a curse that guards the mountain's deepest secrets.

Maya and Chloe aren't buying the hype. Driven by a mix of scientific curiosity and a gut feeling that the mountain is being exploited, they set out to find the truth. Their investigation leads them to the Cedar Mountain Country Store, where owners Doug and Sam provide more than just supplies-they offer the wisdom of the mountain and tools that seem to possess a strange, helpful magic of their own.

As Maya and Chloe trek through the rugged Utah wilderness to separate myth from mountain-sized lies, they realize that while some legends are better left unsolved, modern-day greed is a mystery they can't afford to ignore.
