A veterinarian’s decades among animals

Based on actual events, the book draws on Jim Humphreys’s more than three decades as a veterinarian in Southeast New Mexico. Its chapters offer separate episodes from a practice that ranged from familiar pets and farm animals to a Bengal tiger and ostriches. The variety of patients gives the collection its organizing thread: the daily work of caring for animals of very different sizes and temperaments in a rural veterinary practice.
