A rescue journey to Wild Island

Elmer Elevator sets out for Wild Island to free a baby dragon held captive by the island’s animals and forced to ferry them across the river. The rescue premise anchors this children’s fantasy in a clear conflict between the dragon’s captivity and Elmer’s effort to help. First published in 1948, the book is the opening volume of a trilogy, followed by *Elmer and the Dragon* and *The Dragons of Blueland*. This paperback is described as a full facsimile reprint of the original edition, with illustrations by Ruth Chrisman Gannett.
