A farmyard wash-day escape

Wash day sets off a comic change of scenery for Duck, Cow, and Pig: resisting Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s scrubbing leads them from the farm to the big city, where unfamiliar surroundings make farm life look different. The simple conflict gives the story a clear shape for young children, with farm animals, a growing mess, and a return-to-the-farm question at its heart. At 32 pages, it is a compact picture-book choice for sharing around bath time or alongside conversations about daily routines and feeling at home.

Book overview

In this beloved classic story, three stubborn farm animals don't want to get washed--and wind up making a bigger mess instead! The perfect bath-time story!

Uh-oh. It's wash day at the farm, and Mrs. Wishy-Washy won't back down. She's getting ready to rub and scrub all the animals, but Duck, Cow, and Pig won't stand for it! It's time to leave the farm for good.

But when they get to the big city, things aren't as simple as they'd thought. The streets are noisy, the food is strange, the shops are a mess--and there's no Mrs. Wishy-Washy to help them through it! Maybe the farm wasn't so bad after all . . .

In this beloved classic, clean-loving Mrs. Wishy-Washy returns with a sudsy story that will become a favorite before you can say "bath time"!
