A manga retelling begins the Monkey King’s legend

This full-color manga adaptation opens on the origins of Sun Wu Kong, the mythical Monkey King, within the broader tale of Journey to the West. Monk Tang San-Zang and his four disciples set out for India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures, following the Buddha’s instructions. The source description frames the expedition as an encounter with magic, monsters, and spirits, placing a fantastical quest alongside its Buddhist scripture-seeking premise. As an opening volume, it introduces the journey and its central company while drawing on a classic Chinese novel in a comics format.
