A Little Red Riding Hood retelling grounded in community
Kori Swearengen’s modern-day retelling gives Little Red an errand that takes him through a white neighborhood to the store. An encounter with a police officer on his way out brings his community into the account as a source of support. The familiar fairy-tale framework sits alongside a specific contemporary setting and a question of what it means to move through a neighborhood where Little Red may not feel welcome. Community support is part of the premise, not an added moral at the end.
