A journey shaped by faith and a childhood dream

Set in the remnants of a world after a massive war, the story centers on Yoshiya, an orphan raised by Brother Gabriel. His hopes for a new life are interrupted when royal soldiers arrest Gabriel, sending Yoshiya toward the capital in an effort to save him. The journey brings new friendships and tests of faith, while reconnecting Yoshiya with the dream of becoming a good king. As the first book in The Last King series, it introduces a young-adult Christian fantasy shaped by loyalty, belief, and the question of whether a childhood ambition points toward a larger calling.

Book overview

Despite being an orphan in the remnants of a world left behind after a massive world war, Yoshiya has grown into a capable young man. Though he had dreamed of being a good king for most of his childhood, his sixteenth birthday gave him glimpses of a new direction for his life. Now able to explore other territories, Yoshiya is ready to make a better life for himself and Brother Gabriel, the man who raised him. All of his excitement and hopes for a new life soon come to a sudden halt when he arrives home one day to find the king's royal soldiers have arrested Brother Gabriel. As Yoshiya races to the capital city to save Gabriel, he will encounter new friendships, tests of faith, and discover that his childhood dreams may have been a higher calling.
