A Britain at the edge of Roman rule

Set after the Roman army’s departure from Britain, the novel places Aquila, a young legionnaire who stayed behind, amid civil conflict and the threat of Saxon invasion. The destruction of his home gives the story a personal stake within this larger historical upheaval, while years of hardship and fighting narrow his purpose toward revenge. The premise connects the collapse of Roman authority with one young man’s losses and choices, giving the ancient setting both political and personal dimensions.

Good fit for readers who enjoy
