AlbakiReads Editorial

A familiar rhyme heads to school

Jeffrey Burton recasts the “Itsy Bitsy Spider” rhyme as a first-day-of-school outing. The school bus carries a backpack filled with lunch and books, then brings children to a classroom where the day includes learning, play, and meeting the teacher. The nursery-rhyme framework gives the back-to-school subject a recognizable structure for very young listeners, with the focus on the simple milestones of arriving and beginning the school day.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • A fit for toddlers encountering school routines or preparing for a first day.
  • Suitable for families seeking a nursery-rhyme-themed read-aloud for ages 0–3.
  • May interest young children who enjoy books about buses, classrooms, and school.
