AlbakiReads Editorial

A life spanning animal care, music, and conservation

Kevin Fitzgerald’s memoir brings together several strands of an unusual working life: childhood in the 1950s, security work for rock bands, more than four decades practicing small-animal veterinary medicine in a major American city, and a commitment to conservation. The description frames these experiences as a life shaped by being present at unexpected moments, with animals and the natural world recurring across its professional and personal dimensions. Its scope offers a portrait that connects entertainment and veterinary work with a broader concern for the planet.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Readers interested in memoirs that cross entertainment and veterinary medicine.
  • Those curious about long careers in small-animal practice and conservation.

Book overview

"Veterinarian, comedian, and devoted conservationist, Kevin Fitzgerald, has written a moving memoir about a life well-lived. His has been a very full life with an almost Forrest Gump-like quality for "being there at the right time." Join him as he describes being a child of the 50's, doing security for rock bands, and practicing small animal veterinary medicine in a major American city for over 40 years."--
