AlbakiReads Editorial

A freight train with a deadline

A freight train is determined to reach Chicago on time, with mountains and cows among the obstacles in its way. The train’s own insistence that nothing will stop him gives the journey a comic premise. The publisher’s description also includes a rhythmic, sound-filled excerpt, making the train’s movement part of the read-aloud experience. The destination gives the trip a clear goal, while the obstacles keep attention on what the train meets along the way.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Children interested in trains
  • Families looking for a read-aloud with train sounds and repetition
