AlbakiReads Editorial

Counting with a limited sketchbook

In I Can Only Draw Worms, the creator’s stated inability to draw anything else becomes the organizing idea. The picture book combines counting with an introduction to worms, using bright neon colors and a deliberately narrow subject for its visual humor. That simple constraint gives the book a clear way to bring numbers and silliness together.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Children exploring counting through picture books
  • Families looking for humorous books about worms

Book overview

A hilarious picture book in bright, neon colors that is perfect for fans of The Book With No Pictures and The Day the Crayons Quit.

This is part counting book, part introduction to worms, but all superbly silly. The fact that the author/illustrator can only draw worms will not take anything away from the laugh-out-loud adventure readers will have as they turn the pages of this slightly subversive picture book.
