Hume in the context of the Enlightenment
This collection of original essays examines a question that the source description identifies as less clearly defined than Hume’s standing in modern philosophy: how he belongs within Enlightenment thought. Taking recent scholarship on Hume as its starting point, the volume sets out to reassess and clarify his influence on Enlightenment ideas and values. Its subject sits at the intersection of philosophical history and the intellectual history of the Enlightenment, making the relationship between an individual philosopher and a broader movement the book’s central concern.
