Book overview
Winter was never meant to be controlled.
The snows should have ended weeks ago. Yet Ashenwood remains locked beneath an endless frost. Deep within the ancient forest, something is failing. The White Stag - guardian of the old balance between winter and mankind - is wounded, and with every passing day the cold grows harsher, stranger, and more alive.
Marked by the broken shard of the Horn of Winter, Edrin is drawn once more into the heart of Ashenwood where forgotten memories awaken beneath the snow and ancient truths begin to surface. The Horn was not lost by accident. It was shattered long ago to stop men from commanding winter itself.
But others seek to remake it.
As travelers from the frozen south arrive carrying dark warnings of entire villages trapped beneath living ice, Edrin learns that the mysterious Hunter is no longer alone. Across the valleys, followers gather to claim the power of the Horn and bend winter to their will - no matter the cost.
Now, with Ashenwood weakening and the White Stag fading, Edrin must choose between mankind's desire to conquer winter... or the ancient balance that has protected the world for generations. For if the Horn of Winter is ever made whole again, the forest will fall.
And winter will belong to man...
