Book overview
Discover the women who shaped Puerto Rico's history.
This anthology brings together twenty investigative essays on historic Puerto Rican women, using their own quotes as a pie forza'o (thematic opening).
It is the result of fifteen years of interest in Puerto Rico's most influential historical figures and six years of research dedicated to the women who shaped Boricua history.
The goal of this book is to make visible the women who have made Puerto Rican history and to explore our national history through them.
In doing so, we reclaim them for present and future generations, leaving behind the centuries-old tendency to relegate our ancestras (foremothers) to the margins.
This is not a separate "women's history", but an integral part of Puerto Rican history itself.
Designed for Puerto Ricans both on the archipelago and throughout the diaspora, this book offers an accessible and engaging resource for discovering the women who helped build their patria (homeland): Puerto Rico.
An essential addition to every Boricua home, classroom, school, cultural center, and library.
Includes:
* 20 investigative essays that can be read individually or as a complete collection
* 15 historic Puerto Rican women
* 5 historical female groups
* 4 thematic sections: Revolutionaries, Pioneers, Activists, and Julia de Burgos
* 1 historical quote introducing every chapter
* 20 illustrations and historical images
345 pages
