Praise from The Horn Book
The Horn Book praises the book’s circular structure as “wonderfully satisfying.”
A doorbell, a question, and a growing list of possibilities
A hungry toddler’s anticipation of a pizza delivery becomes a playful exchange about who might be at the door. The mother’s question opens up possibilities beyond the expected pizza man, including a woman and animal visitors, before the story circles back to the doorbell. The setup gives the book a simple, repeated conversational frame, with the child imagining who could arrive.
Based on publisher information and book metadata.
It all begins with a simple question posed by a patient mother when her impatient toddler shouts, 'I'm hungry!' 'What will you say when the doorbell rings and we open the door?' asks Mom. 'Hi, Pizza Man!' replies the thoughtful child. . . . But what if it's a pizza woman?. . . a pizza kitty?. . . a pizza duck?. . . The book has a wonderfully satisfying roundness that comes full circle when the doorbell finally rings. -The Horn Book.
