A rainy-day outing for little explorers

The changing sensations of rain shape this picture book’s simple family outing: droplets drum, windows fog, and the rooftop hums as a young family explores outdoors. When the clouds darken, they head back inside to wait for the storm in a warm, dry place. The weather details give the story a sensory way into early concepts about nature and the outdoors, while the family’s journey moves between outdoor play and shelter. It also features the family from Katherine Pryor and illustrator Briony May Smith’s earlier book, *Hello, Garden!*

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Young children, especially ages 0–3, encountering books about weather and the senses
  • Families seeking a read-aloud about outdoor exploration and returning indoors during a storm
