Although founded in 1934 to pool the resources of its constituent companies the Hawker Siddeley name was not used to 'brand' aircraft until 1963. Prior to this aircraft were produced under the name of the subsidiary company e.g. Hawker P1127, Armstrong Whitworth Argosy, Avro 748 etc. By 1978 Hawker Siddeley was absorbed into the nationalised British Aerospace (BAe) organisation and the legacy aircraft 'branding' changed for the final time. The Hawker Siddeley Group was involved in multiple aerospace and industrial businesses validating their strapline 'The largest aerospace group in Europe', however in this compilation only the aircraft advertisements of Hawker Siddeley Aviation from 1963 to 1977 are included. Adverts for Hawker Siddeley aircraft types include the HS 748 / Andover, HS 125, HS Harrier, HS Argosy, HS Trident, HS Buccaneer, HS Gnat, HS Hawk, HS Vulcan, HS Nimrod, HS 146 & Airbus.
These adverts are particularly engaging and should appeal to aviation historians and enthusiasts alike. As always in this series the adverts are reproduced at one per page, in chronological order without narrative but annotated with the date of original publication and the record number from the Aviation Ancestry master database. To keep production costs down the images are reproduced in greyscale which in many cases was the original format. Where the original was published in full colour the image is annotated accordingly. This was a period of rapid advances in aerospace technology and the resources required to compete in the marketplace spelt the end of many of the most celebrated names in British aviation history as individual entities although their enterprise and expertise endures for all to see. Through this unique timeline let the adverts tell the story of this once great aviation enterprise.
