A window-cleaning business with an unusual crew

Billy manages the Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company, whose team includes a pelican that carries a bucket in its beak and a monkey who does the washing. Their assignment to clean all 677 windows of Hampshire House gives this children’s adventure a clear job to tackle, while the description promises additional surprises along the way. The unusual division of labor makes the business itself a central part of the premise, linking its practical challenge to the story’s animal companions.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Children ages 9–12 looking for an adventure story.
  • Readers who enjoy animal characters and imaginative business premises.
  • Families browsing Roald Dahl’s children’s fiction.

Book overview

From the bestselling author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG!

The Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company certainly doesn't. They don't need a pail, either, because they have a pelican with a bucket-sized beak. With a monkey to do the washing and Billy as their manager, this business is destined for success. Now they have their big break--a chance to clean all 677 windows of the Hampshire House, owned by the richest man in all of England! That's exciting enough, but along the way there are surprises and adventures beyond their wildest window-washing dreams.
