Friendship under a looming shadow

Set in Cyprus in August 2005, the novel brings four former close friends back into one another’s lives after Aristos returns with his new girlfriend. The reunion reveals how the years have left their relationships unevenly changed: Petros and Melina are engaged, while Agathi remains attached to Aristos. Their personal history unfolds against the approaching threat of a major aviation disaster, linking unresolved conflicts with a sharply limited window for setting things right. The story’s central tensions lie in friendship, lingering attachment, and the consequences of choices made across time, within a post-conflict Cypriot setting.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • For readers interested in friendship shaped by separation and reunion.
  • For readers seeking fiction set in Cyprus and attentive to its post-conflict context.
  • For readers who enjoy relationship-centered stories with an impending disaster in the background.

August, 2005.

High-school sweethearts Aristos and Agathi, and Petros and Melina, are the best of friends, until Aristos declares that he is leaving Cyprus for university.

Seven years later, Aristos returns with his new girlfriend, Wendy, to find Petros and Melina engaged, and Agathi still hung up on him.

As the estranged friends become reacquainted, their worlds come apart. All of them have wrongs to right, but with Cyprus hurtling towards the worst aviation disaster in its history, they might have less time than they think.
