A Friday catch, a family gathering
An early-morning fishing trip with Jack and his uncle sets up the practical question at the heart of this family story: whether a small catch will feed everyone expected at the Friday night fish fry. The gathering connects food with welcome and shared community, while also bringing a Midwest tradition into the story. The contrast between the uncertainty on the boat and the anticipated meal gives the premise a clear through-line from fishing to family celebration.
