AlbakiReads Editorial

A school-shopping outing with a counting-game rhythm

The day before school begins, Mama takes five little monkeys to shop for clothes, but small needs and shifting groups keep the outing from staying orderly. The setup gives the story a clear sequence of accumulating monkey mishaps, while repeated phrases, counting the characters, and anticipating what comes next invite children to participate as the events unfold. Presented as a board-book addition to the Five Little Monkeys series, it connects back-to-school preparation with familiar early-learning activities.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Young children who enjoy animal characters and stories about everyday outings
  • Families looking for a read-aloud with repetition, counting, and opportunities to predict what happens next
  • Children preparing for or curious about back-to-school shopping

Book overview

The best-selling Five Little Monkeys are getting into trouble yet again - this time while back-to-school shopping in the latest board book addition to the enormously popular series with more than 8 million books sold.

The day before school starts, Mama takes her five little monkeys shopping for new clothes. "Stay right here," she says, "AND DON'T GO WANDERING OFF!" But one little monkey has to go to the bathroom . . . and two little monkeys get thirsty. . . . Then three little monkey friends arrive . . . and four little monkeys decide to go help find the others. . . . Will Mama ever get all of her monkeys ready for school? Like with the other books in the FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS series, kids will love reciting the repetitive phrases, counting the characters, and predicting what will happen next.
