Restoration and preservation in three Old Testament books

David Guzik’s verse-by-verse commentary brings Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther together around their settings in the aftermath of the Babylonian exile. The source description distinguishes the restoration of Israel presented in Ezra and Nehemiah from Esther’s account of preservation during the exile. This framing gives the three books a shared historical and theological thread while retaining their different roles: rebuilding after displacement and sustaining a people still living away from home. The volume’s structure is organized around the biblical text, making its focus these books and their portrayal of God’s care for Israel.
