A comparative study of five English translations

Patrick John Corness examines five historical English translations of Lesia Ukrainka’s fantasy drama *The Song of the Forest*, considering how their choices shape an English-language understanding of Ukrainian culture and identity. The study also draws attention to Ukrainian folk traditions reflected in the drama, connecting translation questions with the work’s cultural context. Its scope is specific: a comparative-historical inquiry into one Ukrainian literary work and its English translations, rather than a general survey of Ukrainian literature or translation.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Readers researching Lesia Ukrainka, Ukrainian literature, or Ukrainian cultural traditions.
  • Students and scholars interested in literary translation and comparative-historical analysis.
